The new opening – The City Museum of Wrocław in The Royal Palace
The City Museum of Wrocław announces the grand opening of its new residence in the thoroughly renovated Royal Palace. The Museum will be officially opened to public on 19th April 2009.
The modern residence is located in the very heart of the historical city, namely in the Baroque Royal Palace, built about 1719 for the famous magnate family. Now the old Palace is to be turned into the new residence of City Museum of Wrocław - one of the city’s oldest and biggest institutions of culture and art history. Three divisions of the Museum will find their home in the new building, i.e. The Historical Museum, The City Museum of Art and The Museum of Metal Engraving Arts, that is only one museum of such a profile in Poland.

The Palace, with its splendid Baroque garden, will feature an exhibition entitled “1000 years of Wrocław” displaying more than 3 thousands objects such as pictures, sculptures, furniture, documents, orders and other testimonies of the history of Wroclaw and Lower Silesia region. It has been designed to offer a fascinating trip through the most important moments of the city’s history and culture.
In the other parts of building our guests will find royal rooms of Frederick Wilhelm II and Frederick Wilhelm III as well as an amazing gallery of historical and contemporary Silesian painting, including the masterpieces of such famous polish painters as Eugeniusz Geppert, Waldemar Cwenarski, Józef Hałas. The younger generation of artists is represented by the works of Krzysztof Skarbek, Zdzisław Nitka or artists of The LUXUS Group.
The new residence will also accommodate a new bookshop and a shop offering reproductions of museum’s works of art, albums as well as souvenirs and children’s toys. Every day a coffee shop will serve some delicious coffee and crunchy cookies to the visitors.
