Director Maciej Lagiewski (Ph.D.)
Maciej Lagiewski (Ph.D.), was born in Wroclaw, Poland. He graduated from the Law Administration Department of the University of Wroclaw, with a specialization in History. From 1977 to 1985 he worked as a professor lecturing in such varied subjects as: Law, History of Culture, Art and Ethnography. From 1983 to 1990 he was a curator at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw, where he also organized and directed the renovation of the Old Jewish Cemetery in Wroclaw. Since 1991 he has been the director of the Historical Museum of Wroclaw and since 2000, the director of the City Museum of Wroclaw. He has been the recipient of several awards and achievements including: the first Polish laureate of Silesian Cultural Award (1991), the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Award (1991), the Minister of Culture and Arts 1st Degree Award (1992) and the General Conservationists Award (1993). In 1997 he was decorated with the Federal Cross of Merit, by former German President, Roman Herzog.

Other Achievements Include: - Scriptwriter for a documentary about the day of Jewish "Kantorow", entitled They Lived Amongst Us, for the Wratislavia Cantans Festival in 1990 - Author for an exhibition The Jews of Wroclaw 1850-1944 in 1991 shown in Wiesbaden, Stuttgart, Hannover, Munster, Ausburg and Wursburg - Initiator and Producer of the exhibition Salvador Dali's Sketches in 1998 (over 100,000 visitors attended) - Curator of such exhibitions as Wojeciech Fibak's and Fransiszek Starowiejski's art collections (and many others which have drawn record crowds) - The creator of The Gallery of Eminent Wroclawians at Wroclaw's Town Hall
